Another weak article. For those interested in reading something of substance, check out MLHS's article on the subject. Excerpt as follows: - gravyface
I'd guess Franson didn't file because he wants a long term deal in Toronto. |

I would like to see Phaneuf either traded, or signed for the same money. Franson deserves a 4 year 3.5 million deal, Fraser should get a one year 1.3 million dollar deal and see if we can't get Kadri to sign a two year bridge contract, to get by this year's low salary cap. He can cash in later. |

Doesn't matter what contract PK is on. No way he would get more than PK in arbitration. Never happen - faceto27
its not going to Arb so that means nothing

Can the Leafs sign the contract awarded by the arbitrator, then immediately trade the player? Or is there some sort of minimum time that you must keep the player on the roster? |

Nonis really can't give him a dime over 3 mil.
There's a 10 million dollar pie and it's got to be divided up four ways. |

Hopefully, but like the article said, arbitration would limit his ability to sign long-term and/or to an offer sheet. |

No love for Pavel Kubina #71? - Mrbs71
I've blocked out the Pavel Kubina era....but according to Hockey Reference he wore 73 and 77, not 71. |

I guess Toronto isn't the only team feeling the crunch of the new salary CAP. A lot of teams are torn between signing some very good prospects or having to move valuable seasoned veterans. Tough decisions ahead for sure. |

And any aware under 3.5 is automatically accepted. Part of the new CBA.
So, Fraser and Gunnarsson are definitely Leafs this year. |

3 mill be more than Subban makes, which I was aparently high on crack to suggest. |

I do remember him wearing #31 for the leafs, and #77 so I think I mixed the two together. |

Use Subban as the barometer. Cody signs for less or he'll be watching the games from home |

I think so. It's because of how the system works. Players file for arb and the team can then elect a 1 or 2 yr deal. Gunnarsson and Fraser are UFA's next summer so they elect and get to UFAgency in 1 or 2 years (I assume the Leafs will elect 2 year deals if it goes that far).
Franson has 2 more years to UFAgency so the Leafs would've elected a 1 year deal for him. They are probably discussing a one year and a long term deal with him ...and obviously he's probably trying to force a long term deal. |
